As suggested I did several drawings and a painting in oil in my sketch book, looking at shapes and lines, tone and colour.
The initial drawings and painting lack sufficient information in tonal shading. Also because I had chopped off the coloured image at half way down the stove I had to invent the floor (which I do know quite well) and the lower half of the stove which resulted in its being too short. The perspective was also lost somewhere along the way.
I liked the upright initial line drawing because it was busier and more confusing so I adopted this portrait view in the final image.
I prefer to paint away from the subject as I get less bogged down in detail, but I do not like the final image mainly because of the depth of colour.
